Learn From Energy Crises In Spain, Portugal – DPM Fadillah

Kuching: Malaysia must learn to focus on renewable energy implementation to avoid facing large-scale energy crises like those occurring in Spain and Portugal. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof emphasized the need for Malaysia to ensure electricity supply security, particularly in Peninsular Malaysia states where hydro energy resources are insufficient.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah highlighted that in the Peninsula, the electricity supply security is in turmoil due to the inadequate water supply, leading to a heavy reliance on solar energy which lasts only four to eight hours. He noted that this is a challenge faced even in Europe, with countries like Spain and Portugal encountering problems due to transmission line instability.

Fadillah, who also holds the portfolio of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, mentioned that discussions are set to take place with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. These discussions aim to ensure grid stability in Sarawak, which is seen as crucial to attracting investors to the state.
