Johor bahru: Several Johor state leaders, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and elected representatives lodged police reports today concerning a social media post alleged to contain provocative statements and visuals insulting the Johor Royal Institution.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin stated that the reports were filed alongside State Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Khairin-Nisa Ismail @ Md On. The post, attributed to the name Fahmi Reza, is said to have offended the people of Johor and has the potential to create public unease and tension if not addressed.
The statements by Fahmi Reza are perceived as seditious and insulting towards the Regent of Johor and the Johor Royal Institution, according to Aznan. He highlighted that such actions challenge the principles of constitutional monarchy enshrined in the Federal Constitution, and could disrupt public harmony, security, and social stability.
Aznan emphasized the importance of the Malay Rulers' Institution as a pillar of national unity, stability, and continuity, stating that any attempts to demean it or provoke public sentiment against it are unacceptable. The police reports were lodged by various NGOs, youth organisations, more than 20 Johor state assemblymen, UMNO Youth wings, and UMNO division chiefs. These groups are urging the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to conduct a swift and transparent investigation, taking firm action under existing laws, including the Sedition Act 1948.
The controversial Facebook post by Fahmi Reza went viral after questioning the actions and accountability of the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, leading to widespread criticism from social media users. Johor police have stated that the case is under investigation by the Classified Criminal Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department at Bukit Aman.
