Lawyers Urge AGC to Reopen Faisal Halim Acid Attack Case

Kuala Lumpur: Lawyers representing footballer Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim have submitted an application to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to reopen the investigation into an acid attack involving the Selangor FC winger.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, lawyer Nik Zarith Nik Moustpha, who represents Faisal, stated that they had sent a letter to the AGC on April 15 but have yet to receive any response. The letter aims to address the case, which was previously classified as “No Further Action” (NFA) by the AGC on February 18. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) could not find any clues linking any individual to the attack.

Nik Zarith emphasized the importance of reopening the investigation, stating, “As such, we have submitted a letter to the AGC to reopen the investigation as a proactive measure to ensure this case is given the necessary attention. Our client (Faisal) is always ready if the investigation is reopened,” he mentioned during a press conference at the Messrs Mohd Ashraf, Nik Zarith, and Co law firm.

Faisal’s additional lawyer, Mohd Haijan Omar, highlighted Faisal’s disappointment with the investigation’s outcome, while also acknowledging that the investigation adhered to legal protocols. “Our client hopes he can get justice because the injuries he sustained serious injuries which have left him traumatised. Our client acknowledges that he does not know the cause of the incident as he has no problems with anyone,” he added.

Mohd Haijan further stated that they would consult with Faisal to decide on the subsequent steps. “Our focus now is to identify the culprit and (we) hope the AGC will reopen the investigation into the case,” he said.

The incident occurred on May 5 last year, when the 27-year-old Faisal was attacked with acid by an unidentified individual at a shopping mall in Petaling Jaya. He suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body and was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for 10 days.
