Johor bahru: The launch of the masterplan and blueprint for the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), scheduled for March 30 in Johor Bahru, has been postponed until a date to be announced. The Economy Ministry said in a statement that this was the decision of a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister, today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, on March 12, Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir stated that his ministry was finalizing the JS-SEZ masterplan and blueprint. The blueprint serves as a general reference, while the more detailed masterplan is meant to guide all implementing parties in the development of the special economic zone. The launch of the blueprint is considered an important step in detailing the direction of the JS-SEZ development, including investment strategies, economic cooperation, and project implementation in the area.
The JS-SEZ, inspired by Shenzhen and a strategic cooperation initiative between Malaysia and Singapore, aims to strengthen economic integration, attract new investments, and stimulate economic growth in the southern region of the country. The economic zone targets a gross domestic product (GDP) of RM260 billion by 2030, which is expected to completely transform Johor's economic landscape. The initiative aims to shift the economy towards innovation and technology, creating over 20,000 high-skill job opportunities.
