Kuala Perlis-Satun Sea Route To Reopen Early Next Year

Kuala lumpur: The sea route connecting Kuala Perlis to Satun, Thailand, is anticipated to reopen to tourists early next year following the resolution of approval and technical coordination issues between the state government, the Marine Department, and Thai authorities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perlis Tourism, Arts and Culture and Rural Development Committee chairman, Abu Bakar Hamzah, mentioned that there are currently no restrictions from the Malaysian authorities. The committee is awaiting feedback from the Thai government before commencing operations.

Abu Bakar stated that after receiving approval from the Thai government, the state government intends to communicate with the Home Ministry regarding the resumption of operations as part of the Malaysia-Thailand tourism policy. The operations are expected to begin early next year after the completion of repairs on Bangunan Konkos, coordination of the ticketing system, and improvements to the boat mooring site.

He noted that the Kuala Perlis-Satun sea route was temporarily halted during the COVID-19 pandemic but was never officially closed. It continues to be used by local fishermen for fish landing activities. The ferry service on this route will be operated by Koperasi TUBA Langkawi (KOPTUBAS), which previously managed ferry services in the area. The fare and taxes will be determined after the cooperative submits proposals to the state government for further review.
