Kuala Lumpur to Host ASEAN Franchise Convention, Aiming to Boost Regional Franchise Sector

Kuala Lumpur: The inaugural ASEAN Franchise Convention (AFC) is set to take place this May, aligning with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship, with the objective of bolstering the franchise ecosystem throughout Southeast Asia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick announced that the AFC will be held in conjunction with the Franchise International Exhibition (FIM). The events, scheduled for May 7-8 and May 8-10 respectively at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, are anticipated to draw hundreds of franchise brands along with thousands of local and international attendees. These gatherings are designed to serve as pivotal platforms for strategic discussions, franchise exhibitions, and business networking.

“The organisation of this event demonstrates the government’s commitment to advancing the franchise industry as a crucial component of regional economic growth. In addition to enhancing local franchise brands on a global scale, this convention and exhibition will also attract foreign investment and create more entrepreneurial opportunities for Malaysians and ASEAN citizens,” Benedick stated during the launch event for AFC and FIM.

The launch was attended by key figures such as Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA) chairman Datuk Dr Radzali Hassan, vice chairman Datuk Zahriah Abd Kadir, and other committee members, exhibitors, and sponsors. The AFC, organised in collaboration with the ministry and MFA, will focus on the theme ‘Shaping the Future of Franchising in ASEAN: Sustainability, Digitalisation, and Growth’, highlighting franchise sustainability, digital transformation, and industry expansion.

The FIM, endorsed by the World Franchise Council and the Asia Pacific Franchise Confederation, is expected to attract over 30,000 visitors and generate franchise sales exceeding RM600 million. Both events are organised by the same entities and aim to position Malaysia’s franchise industry as a rapidly growing and globally competitive sector. The platforms are envisioned to enhance collaboration and innovation within the ASEAN franchise sector.

Benedick urged more entrepreneurs to engage in the FIM, highlighting that over 70 percent of the exhibition space has already been secured by more than 80 franchise brands across various sectors, including food and beverage, retail, services, and education.
