Kuala Lumpur Rubber Market Declines Amid Geopolitical and Trade Concerns

Kuala Lumpur:The Kuala Lumpur rubber market experienced a downturn, aligning with declines in regional rubber futures markets, as reported by a dealer. Market sentiment was negatively impacted by increasing geopolitical tensions in West Asia, uncertainties surrounding United States-China trade relations, and the unclear outlook of US policy ahead of the midterm elections.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, further declines in the market were restrained by steady benchmark crude oil prices and a slightly weaker ringgit against the US dollar. Additionally, sentiment was bolstered by robust global and US manufacturing activities, alongside concerns about a strong El Niño that could lead to weather-related supply disruptions.

The dealer highlighted that the United States reportedly conducted another limited strike on Iran's Qeshm Island, intensifying concerns over West Asia tensions. This development occurred despite renewed hopes for a peace deal, causing oil prices to rise. Furthermore, major automakers have called on US lawmakers to enforce a permanent ban on Chinese vehicle imports, citing national security issues and competition with domestic manufacturers.

At 3 pm, the price of Standard Malaysian Rubber 20 (SMR 20) decreased by 9.5 sen to 994.5 sen per kilogramme, while latex in bulk dropped by three sen to 783.5 sen per kilogramme.
