Kuala Lumpur Collaborates on New Command Centre to Enhance CCTV Access

Kuala Lumpur:Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are considering the establishment of a control centre aimed at improving police access to the extensive closed-circuit television (CCTV) system across the federal capital.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department for Federal Territories, Hannah Yeoh, highlighted the importance of this initiative due to the presence of approximately 10,000 CCTV units installed throughout Kuala Lumpur. The proposed command centre is expected to enhance the efficiency of operations related to monitoring security incidents and managing traffic flow.

Yeoh mentioned that DBKL and PDRM are in the process of discussing the establishment of a second command centre that would be more accessible to the police. Despite DBKL's current use of smart CCTVs, there remains a significant reliance on police presence to maintain smooth traffic flow in the city.

At a recent event at the Sentul District Police Headquarters, Yeoh announced an allocation of RM60,000 for information and communications technology (ICT) equipment for the front counters of Sentul IPD and three other police stations. Additionally, RM100,000 has been set aside to support logistics costs for police personnel participating in DBKL-organized programs.

She emphasized the importance of collaboration between DBKL and the police in managing city events, such as road closures for running events and concerts, as well as in tackling crime and online fraud.

Sentul police chief ACP Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam noted that the new ICT system would significantly expedite public services, particularly in the process of lodging police reports.
