Kuala lumpur: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will provide eight additional KTM Komuter Utara train services for the Butterworth and Padang Besar route from Thursday until Monday (Aug 27-31) in conjunction with the school holidays and National Day celebrations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, KTMB announced in a statement today that the additional services are part of the KTM Komuter Northern Sector Special Timetable, which aims to meet the expected increase in passenger demand during this period. This initiative will boost the total number of services on the Butterworth-Padang Besar-Butterworth route from 38 to 46 services per day.
KTMB anticipates a 30 percent increase in the number of passengers compared to normal days due to this initiative, with the additional services accommodating up to 5,000 extra passengers daily, or a total of 25,000 passengers throughout the implementation period.
The statement further detailed that four additional services will be provided for both the Padang Besar-Butterworth and Butterworth-Padang Besar routes, bringing the total to 23 services per day for each direction, compared to 19 services under the regular timetable.
These additional services are part of KTMB's efforts to enhance public transport capacity and provide more travel options, especially for journeys between Penang, Kedah, and Perlis during the school holidays and National Day celebrations.
KTMB advises the public to plan their journeys in advance and refer to the KTM Komuter Northern Sector Special Timetable, which will be in effect throughout the period. Schedule and fare information is available through the KITS Style application, KTMB's official website, or the company's official social media channels.
