KSN To Receive Performance Reports Of Ministry Secretaries-General On May 7

Putrajaya: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar announced that the performance reports of all ministry secretaries-general are scheduled to be submitted on Wednesday, May 7. The reports are currently under review by a committee chaired by the Public Service Department, which will then forward them to Shamsul Azri for detailed scrutiny.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Shamsul Azri emphasized the importance of evaluating these reports to assess the performance of each ministry accurately. He clarified that the initiative is not meant to penalize but to incorporate two elements: demerit and ‘remerit’. Ministries that underperform will receive a demerit, while those demonstrating commendable work will be awarded a ‘remerit’. These remarks were made during the Putrajaya City Trail Series 1/2025 programme organized by Putrajaya Corporation (PPj).

In a previous statement, Shamsul Azri mentioned that he would receive performance reports for 27 secretaries-general as part of an effort to establish a more dynamic, data-driven system for public service monitoring. This system is a significant step towards the full implementation of the Demerit Performance Evaluation (DEEP), which is a strategic mechanism designed to enhance accountability and governance standards within the civil service.

The DEEP mechanism supports the Public Service Reform Agenda (ARPA) and is built around two main components: demerit and ‘remerit’. These are evaluated through three performance dimensions: Generic (75 per cent), Functional (15 per cent), and Survey (10 per cent).

During the event, Shamsul Azri also interacted with participants of the Putrajaya City Trail and visited the stingless bee farming project at Laman Kelulut. The Putrajaya City Trail is a 15-kilometre cycling event that circles the lake at Putrajaya Botanical Garden, aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and highlighting the beauty of the local flora.

The event was attended by several notable figures, including Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Federal Territories Department director-general Datuk Seri Noridah Abdul Rahim, PPj president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud, and Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Izwan Hasli Mohd Ibrahim.
