Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of National Unity (KPN) has announced the Pesta Bola Merdeka exhibition, which aims to celebrate football as a symbol of unity among Malaysians of different races, religions, and cultures. The exhibition is set to run from August 31 to December 31, 2026, at Gallery 1, Department of Museums Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the four-month exhibition is part of KPN's efforts to highlight football's significance in Malaysia's historical journey, showcasing its impact on national spirit, unity, and identity. The exhibition traces the history and evolution of football in Malaysia, from its early days before independence to its current status as a beloved national sport.

Visitors will have the chance to relive historic moments that have defined Malaysian football and acknowledge the contributions of key figures who have played a pivotal role in developing the sport alongside the nation's quest for independence.

National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang emphasized that football transcends being just a game, serving as a unifying force that bridges racial, religious, and cultural divides. He noted that football has been integral to the community's fabric even before Malaysia gained independence.

The minister highlighted that the sportsmanship fostered through football reflects the spirit of resilience and patriotism that underpinned the formation of an independent Malaysia. The exhibition is free to the public from 9 am to 5 pm, providing an opportunity to explore the exhibits that illustrate football's role in nation-building.
