Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has submitted 14 proposed initiatives for the 2027 Budget, focusing on improving the people's quality of life through stronger public infrastructure, flood mitigation, community safety, and access to housing. Its minister, Nga Kor Ming, said the proposals had been comprehensively formulated to ensure that every policy and fiscal allocation channeled by the government would deliver tangible benefits to the people, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's aspirations to develop the nation and enhance public well-being.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, key areas of focus include infrastructure and local authorities (PBT), disaster management, public safety, sustainability, and taxation. Nga Kor Ming highlighted proposed measures to upgrade public facilities, including local markets and food courts, and enhance services provided by local authorities. For disaster management, the ministry aims to transform flood-prone areas into flood-free zones by improving drainage systems in high-risk areas.
Regarding public safety, the proposals include fire prevention measures, strengthening safety standards for residential infrastructure, and maintaining firefighting facilities. The ministry is also exploring housing tax incentives, climate-resilient urban development, and the Home Ownership Campaign to aid more Malaysians in owning homes.
KPKT remains committed to ensuring that every proposal is feasible, transparent, and centered on the fundamental needs of the community, supporting the nation's sustainable development agenda. Nga expressed appreciation for the civil servants who contributed to the Budget 2027 dialogue session and hoped the ministry's proposals would receive due consideration from the Finance Ministry.
Meanwhile, KPKT, in a statement, said the session was part of the preparation process for Budget 2027, aimed at ensuring every proposal was comprehensively evaluated in terms of priority, implementation effectiveness, and impact on the people. Besides Nga, the session included attendees like Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, the ministry's Secretary-General Datuk Dr. M. Noor Azman Taib, and Treasury Secretary-General Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican, along with senior officials from the ministry, the Ministry of Finance, and the Budget 2027 team.
According to KPKT, the session focused primarily on strengthening public well-being and modernizing the quality of the urban environment. Key priorities discussed included smoother traffic planning, flood mitigation, improvements to local facilities, and refurbishment projects for low- and low-medium-cost strata housing. Discussions also covered expanding the MADANI Smart City concept through real-time monitoring technology, developing quality public recreational spaces, and initiatives to support youth economic activities and community financing funds.
The ministry said eco-friendly taxation policies were also incorporated into the proposals to support more equitable socio-economic development and strengthen urban resilience against climate change. "The MADANI Government is committed to building an urban environment that is safer, more inclusive, and sustainable for the well-being of present and future generations," read the statement.
