KPKT Staff Uphold Integrity and Excellence, Says Minister Nga

Kuala lumpur: Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) staff are not only committed to implementing development policies but also stress on far-thinking human capital and work with integrity, its minister, Nga Kor Ming said. He cited the various achievements in balancing physical development, social well-being, and environmental sustainability by the ministry as proof, pointing out that the success would not have occurred without the extraordinary dedication of all ministry staff.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nga emphasized the importance of recognizing excellence within the civil service. He stated that such excellence should not be overshadowed by mediocrity but should be highlighted and respected as a standard for all civil servants. This was articulated during his speech at the KPKT Minister’s Excellence Award Ceremony (AKM) 2025, attended by the Prime Minister’s wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

He further noted that the ministry’s success was acknowledged when it was named the Most Excellent and High Performing Ministry 2024, making history by winning major awards, including the National Development Award 2024. This accolade recognized the ministry’s effective planning and implementation of high-impact projects.

Nga elaborated on the AKM 2025, describing the awards as an acknowledgement that offered civil servants the opportunity to study at prestigious institutions such as Harvard University and Melbourne University on full scholarships. He asserted that this initiative underscores KPKT’s commitment to knowledge, leadership, and excellence, while fostering a culture of high performance within the civil service.

The AKM 2025 features 10 categories, including the Minister’s Excellence Award, Best Leadership, Best Leadership (Local Authority), Inspirational Leadership, Leadership of Hope, Inspirational Icon, Best Organisation, and Excellent Local Authority.

Meanwhile, Datuk Dr Mohd Azhar Abd Hamid, director-general of the National Solid Waste Management Department and recipient of the Minister’s Excellence Award, remarked on the importance of maintaining integrity and best practices. He noted that the award reflects the ministry’s appreciation for its staff and aligns with the pursuit of excellence.

Since its inception in 2023, the biennial AKM has become a distinguished event celebrating outstanding civil servants in various ministries, departments, agencies, and 156 local authorities across the nation. Winners receive a certificate, trophy, up to RM20,000 in cash, and the chance to attend a short-term course at a renowned university abroad for selected categories.
