KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), through URBANICE Malaysia, aims to create 50 more community spaces in the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) next year. Its Minister, Nga Kor Ming, announced plans to enhance existing PPR environments to foster better community interactions and living conditions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nga Kor Ming stated that 50 community spaces have already been established in several PPR locations nationwide. The minister emphasized the transformation of previously neglected areas, such as motorcycle parking zones filled with rubbish, into green, comfortable spaces for community activities. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the living standards and well-being of urban residents.

Nga made these remarks during a media conference following the launch of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in conjunction with the Jelajah Sentuhan Kejayaan KPKT 2024. He highlighted the ministry’s commitment to ensuring that
urban residents enjoy a healthier and more productive quality of life. The focus is on making PPRs more habitable and conducive to community living.

Additionally, Nga mentioned that maintenance work on PPRs across the country, supported by an allocation of RM185 million, is expected to conclude by the end of next year. This work involves significant improvements, including upgrading lifts and lighting, repainting buildings, and replacing damaged floors, to enhance the overall living conditions for residents.
