Padang Besar: The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM) remains committed to implementing a comprehensive corn grain industry development programme nationwide as part of efforts to reduce import dependency and stabilise the price of livestock feed in the country. Its Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Isham Ishak, highlighted that the Chuping Valley Industrial Area (CVIA), developed by Green World Genetics Sdn Bhd (GWG) and FGV Chuping Agro Valley, has shown significant success in corn grain cultivation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Isham stated that the achievements in CVIA are a proven success story, and the ministry plans to replicate the same standard operating procedures in other selected areas. Corn grain plays a crucial role as a key component in livestock feed, especially for poultry and ruminants such as cattle. This initiative aims to enhance local production and decrease reliance on imported corn.
The ministry is also focusing on engaging youth in the agricultural industry, particularly in grain corn cultivation. This will be achieved through structured training programmes and strategic collaborations with private sector partners. GWG, for instance, provides comprehensive training that covers not only planting but also farm management, logistics, and marketing. This holistic approach is designed to elevate agriculture as a competitive career choice.
Isham encouraged school leavers to consider agriculture as a viable and promising profession, emphasizing the existing support infrastructure provided by the government and industry stakeholders. He noted that many farmers have already achieved success, demonstrating that agriculture offers a stable and sustainable career path. The support system is in place, and young people are encouraged to explore opportunities within this sector.
