Melaka: The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry (KPKM) will submit immediate and medium-term measures to the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) and the Cabinet to address risks facing the agricultural sector following the West Asia crisis. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that feedback from industry players would be considered to ensure the country's preparedness in dealing with the current situation.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid announced that KPKM would be making further announcements on the matter. This was stated after attending the Aidilfitri open house hosted by Melaka Chief Minister and State UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh in Masjid Tanah. Ahmad Zahid also encouraged the opposition to contribute constructive proposals to help the government tackle challenges arising from geopolitical instability. He emphasized that the issue is a shared problem and urged for collaboration to find solutions to safeguard the country.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu was reported as saying that the government is studying several proposals to support padi farmers affected by the rising input costs due to the surge in global fuel prices. In a Facebook post, he mentioned that proposals under consideration include the use of fleet cards for agricultural machinery, as well as increased incentives for ploughing and harvesting.
