Kuching: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has received two complaints of price hikes involving items under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) and MyKasih programmes. Its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Mohd Sayuthi Bakar, stated that investigations revealed one complaint stemmed from a retailer’s technical error in managing the product coding system, which has since been rectified.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, KPDN has increased monitoring efforts, instructing all state enforcement officers to focus on shops participating in the programme to prevent traders from exploiting the situation for excessive profits. Mohd Sayuthi emphasized that stern action would be taken against any party found attempting to unjustifiably raise prices.
Meanwhile, Mohd Sayuthi reported that the Sarawak Zone KPDN Carnival Tour 2025 and Buy Malaysian Products Campaign (KBBM) at Kuching Waterfront has recorded sales exceeding RM500,000 to date, including RM180,000 from the Rahmah Sales yesterday. The event, which attracted approximately 35,000 visitors by this afternoon, also saw vehicle sales by strategic partners, with two cars sold on the first day.
Mohd Sayuthi highlighted that there was no set sales target, as the primary aim is to provide the public with access to affordable goods and raise awareness of the available initiatives.
