Kuala lumpur: The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is poised to accommodate the expected influx of Formula 1 (F1) teams, officials, and spectators with the return of the championship to Malaysia in October, as announced by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the airport operator has expressed a positive outlook on the announcement, stating that it is ready to welcome the teams traveling to Malaysia for the F1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix (Bahrain GP). KLIA is already prepared to handle the anticipated increase in international visitors during the Visit Malaysia period. The airport's facilities, including the Sama-Sama Hotel at KLIA, are equipped to meet the needs of visitors.

MAHB noted that beyond the immediate benefits to travel and tourism, hosting the Bahrain GP in Malaysia serves as a valuable opportunity to showcase the country's connectivity, hospitality, and ability to support major international events. This event underscores the importance of cross-country collaboration and mutual support amidst ongoing uncertainties in the aviation and travel sectors.

Malaysia is set to host the Bahrain GP at the Sepang International Circuit from October 2-4, after being selected as a replacement host due to the postponement of the Bahrain race caused by the West Asia conflict.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has urged all relevant stakeholders, including airport operators, airlines, ground handlers, and government agencies, to collaborate closely to ensure the smooth handling of the event. With an expected increase in scheduled, charter, and business aviation flights during the F1 weekend, CAAM emphasized the need for adequate resources, personnel, and contingency arrangements to support higher passenger and flight volumes.
