Kuala lumpur: The Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has deployed 99 enforcement personnel at strategic locations to monitor the implementation of the Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) for Aidilfitri 2026. Its director, Mohd Sabri Seman, stated that the officers are stationed at public markets and shopping malls to ensure compliance with the 15-day scheme, effective from March 14 to 28. The scheme aims to enforce effective price control without hindering businesses.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Sabri emphasized the importance of adhering to set prices and displaying pink tags on items under price control. He warned that strict actions would be taken against traders who fail to comply with the scheme under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011.
This year, 27 items have been identified as price-controlled, compared to 26 last year. These include large yellow onions, large red onions, local beef, and mackerel. The list of controlled items varies by region: 23 in Sabah and Sarawak, 24 in Peninsular Malaysia, 23 in Kuala Lumpur, and 22 in Labuan. Specific items like imported buffalo meat from India are price-controlled in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Labuan, while local beef is controlled in Peninsular Malaysia except for batang pinang cuts.
Mohd Sabri also highlighted that certain fish types are controlled regionally; for example, aya or tongkol (mackerel tuna) is regulated in Pahang, Terengganu, and Kelantan, whereas demuduk, sagai, cermin, or cupak fish are controlled in Sabah. The public is encouraged to report pricing or supply issues through various channels, including the KL KPDN operations room, WhatsApp, a call centre, and the Ez ADU KPDN app.
Additionally, Federal Territories KPDN has organized 174 RAHMAH MADANI Aidilfitri Sales events across 11 constituencies, providing consumers with savings of 10 to 30 percent off market prices.
