KKDW Approves 98 Projects for Sarawak’s Rural Roads Programme

Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) has approved 98 projects under the Rural Roads (JALB) programme for Sarawak, with a total allocation of RM9.04 billion, the Dewan Negara was told today. Its Deputy Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang stated that 11 of these projects involve upgrading former logging roads across Sarawak, costing RM759 million.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, nine JALB projects have been approved for the Hulu Rajang parliamentary constituency, totaling RM674.9 million. Among these, two projects focus on upgrading former logging roads, which are currently under construction. The physical progress of the Tegulang Resettlement (Phase 5) road in Kapit, Sarawak is 44.24 percent and is expected to be completed by October 2025. Meanwhile, the upgrading of the logging road to Metalun Resettlement (Phase 6) in Kapit is 5.73 percent complete, with a completion target of March 2027. The Sarawak Public Works Department is the implementing agency for both projects, Rubiah Wang noted in response to a query from Senator Michael Mujah Lihan on the progress of the logging road upgrading project in Sarawak.
