Johor bahru: The state visit of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, to Bahrain has been described as a significant effort to strengthen the close relationship between the two countries.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin, as the minister-in-attendance for the visit, emphasized that in challenging geopolitical situations, it’s important for Malaysia to have friendly countries that can cooperate strategically. He noted that such state visits are part of His Majesty’s efforts to foster a deeper and more trusting relationship between Malaysia and Bahrain, which is essential given Malaysia’s policy of neutrality.
Mohamed Khaled highlighted the importance of opening wider markets for Malaysia, particularly in light of its stance of not wanting to be tied to any bloc. Bahrain, with its strong economy focused on oil, gas, and services sectors, can serve as a strategic partner in expanding Malaysia’s market reach, particularly in regions such as Africa.
Furthermore, he explained that the relationship between the two countries, pioneered by His Majesty, requires strategic planning to ensure mutual benefits. The visit underscores the need for strategic management to take advantage of the established close ties.
In terms of security, Khaled noted that Malaysia and Bahrain, as members of ASEAN and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) respectively, prioritize peace and stability within their blocs to strengthen bilateral trade. He emphasized the importance of GCC-ASEAN defence and security collaboration to prevent crises that could affect global trade, highlighting Bahrain’s role in enhancing trade relationships.
Bahrain remains a major trade partner for Malaysia in West Asia, ranking as Malaysia’s ninth-largest trading partner, 11th-largest export destination, and eighth-largest import source in the region. His Majesty concluded the three-day state visit with his departure from Bahrain International Airport, arriving safely at Senai International Airport.
