Kuala lumpur: Former national women’s doubles player, Woon Khe Wei, has expressed confidence that the Pearly Tan-M Thinaah pair will achieve significant success by securing a medal at the 2025 World Badminton Championships, set to take place in Paris, France, from August 25 to 31.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Khe Wei’s confidence stems from the pair’s consistent performances throughout this year’s tournaments. The duo, currently ranked second globally, has consistently demonstrated impressive and convincing play.
“This year their performance is really good and quite consistent. Their style of playing is impressive and convincing,” Khe Wei mentioned after inaugurating her badminton academy. She hopes that Pearly-Thinaah can secure Malaysia’s first medal in the women’s doubles event.
Additionally, Khe Wei advised the national pair to maintain focus and not underestimate the opponents they will encounter, despite receiving a relatively easy draw at the world championships. She believes that Pearly-Thinaah are well-prepared both mentally and physically to bring home a medal for Malaysia.
At the draw ceremony held on Wednesday, the pair received a favorable draw, advancing easily to the semi-finals. As second seeds, they received a bye in the first round and are expected to face Indonesia’s Lanny Tria Mayasari-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, ranked 14th in the world, in the quarter-finals. The head-to-head record favors the Malaysian pair.
