Kuala lumpur: The house eviction operation in Kampung Sungai Baru was executed today in accordance with legal procedures and a court order, as stated by Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Zaliha emphasized that the decision was not solely made by the government but was a result of a judicial process that had been determined by the court and needed to be adhered to. She remarked, “This decision was not made on its own but through the court. When the court has issued an order, it must be implemented, and civil servants cannot be prevented from carrying out their duties.” She further mentioned that residents who disagreed with the decision had been compensated and could still seek further legal recourse if unsatisfied with the compensation.
Dr Zaliha also highlighted that most residents in the area had consented to the redevelopment project and had been anticipating its implementation for over eight years. She noted that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed the importance of resolving the issue comprehensively, considering all parties involved. Dr Zaliha urged the community to remain composed and avoid actions that could disrupt harmony.
She expressed regret over the incident that occurred during the eviction despite the government’s collaboration with security forces, notably the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). She stated, “I hope all parties take the issue of national peace seriously and do not take actions that can provoke and threaten harmony.”
The eviction operation, carried out by police and enforcement agencies, turned tense when Dang Wangi District Police Chief ACP Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman sustained injuries, reportedly from a stone thrown by an unknown individual while managing the situation.
