Kevin Nunis Buried This Morning

Kuala lumpur: Former hockey player and national Olympian Muhammad Khairy Nunis Abdullah, also known as Kevin Christopher Nunis, who passed away yesterday, was laid to rest at the Taman Sri Sinar Muslim cemetery at 10:45 am today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, prior to the burial, his remains were brought to the Surau Silaturrahim Taman Segambut SSPK for the funeral prayer. This solemn event was attended by 200 individuals, including family, friends, colleagues, and local residents.

Among those present were his wife, Rahimah Awang Mohd, their three children, and grandchildren. Notable attendees included Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal and National Athletes Welfare Foundation (YAKEB) chairman Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail.

Meanwhile, Subahan expressed that Muhammad Khairy Nunis’ passing is a significant loss to the national hockey community. “His services to Malaysian hockey were immense, not only as a player, but also in his contributions to the sport’s development as a coach for the National Hockey Development Programme (NHDP),” he said.

Muhammad Khairy Nunis, a native of Negeri Sembilan, passed away at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) around 6:45 pm yesterday, following several months of treatment for a blood infection. He was a key player in the national hockey squad during the 1980s, representing Malaysia at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, the Asian Games in India (1982) and South Korea (1986), as well as the SEA Games in Singapore (1983), Jakarta (1987), and Kuala Lumpur (1989).
