Semporna: The Sabah Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment (KePKAS) has set a three-month deadline for 86 unlicensed accommodation premises in Semporna to complete their licence applications and fully comply with the legal requirements. KePKAS assistant minister Dr Andi Md Shamsureezal Mohd Saina stated that action would be taken against operators who failed to apply and enforcement would be implemented in an integrated manner.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, current findings reveal that 190 accommodation premises are operating in Semporna. Out of this number, 45 are licensed, 59 are in the process of applying, while 86 have yet to apply for a licence. Dr. Andi made these remarks in a statement released today, following a special working committee meeting aimed at addressing tourism issues in Semporna. This initiative is part of proactive efforts to strengthen safety levels and boost tourist confidence in the area.

Dr. Andi emphasized that Semporna remains a safe tourist destination. The ministry plans to conduct integrated operations in collaboration with enforcement agencies and local authorities to ensure compliance with licensing requirements, including adherence to tourist safety standard operating procedures (SOPs). In addition, the ministry will soon publish tourist safety SOPs on KePKAS' official website, making them publicly accessible as a reference for stakeholders.
