Kemaman: The crime index in the Kemaman district recorded an increase of 9.6 percent to 57 cases for the period from January 1 to March 23, compared to 52 cases in the same period last year. Kemaman district police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli attributed the rise to an increase in theft cases, which surged by 31.8 percent to 29 cases compared to 22 cases in the same period before.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, property crimes also saw an increase of 17.9 percent, with 46 cases recorded compared to 39 cases last year. The district experienced a significant spike in motorcycle theft cases, which rose by 50 percent to six cases. On a more positive note, violent crimes showed a decrease of 15.4 percent, dropping to 11 cases compared to 13 cases in the same period last year.
Commenting on road safety, Mohd Razi highlighted a worrying trend in fatal accidents, which increased by 200 percent, with nine cases recorded compared to three cases in the same period last year. Additionally, 15,555 summonses were issued from January 1 to March 23, marking a 10.89 percent increase compared to 14,027 summonses in the same period last year.
