Kuala lumpur: The Kelantan police have requested assistance from Thai authorities to provide any available information regarding suspects involved in a recent shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of five Thai security personnel and are believed to have fled to Malaysia.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, the Kelantan police chief, stated that no intelligence has been received confirming the suspects' entry into Malaysia. Surveillance by the Special Branch and all district police headquarters in Kelantan has not detected any movement of the suspects across the border. He emphasized that claims of suspects fleeing to Malaysia after shooting incidents in southern Thailand are common, yet no evidence has been provided to substantiate these allegations.

Mohd Yusoff urged Thai authorities to share any pertinent information to enable prompt action. During a press briefing following the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Coordination Meeting with the Kelantan State Education Department (JPN), he highlighted efforts to close illegal border routes to prevent smuggling, crime, and the entry of wanted individuals.

He expressed support for Thailand's initiative to construct a 90-kilometre security fence along the border, noting that Malaysia has also allocated RM3.04 billion for building walls and security fences in border areas, with completion expected by 2029.

Additionally, Mohd Yusoff discussed collaboration with the Kelantan JPN to address social issues affecting students, including family dynamics and parental roles, to facilitate timely and effective interventions.
