Kelantan: The Kelantan Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized 12 vehicles, including 10 cars and two motorcycles, for extreme modifications during an operation conducted last Friday. Its director Mohd Misuari Abdullah said the operation, dubbed Ops Ekstrem, was carried out from midnight to 8am around Kota Bharu, involving 18 officers and personnel.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the operation led to the issuance of 131 notices, including 52 P22 summonses, 32 Vehicle Inspection Directives under Section 61(1), and 12 seizure notices under Section 64(1) involving two motorcycles and 10 vehicles. Additionally, two investigation notices under Section 114 were issued. The technical offences involving cars included non-compliant exhaust systems, engine changes, altered ground clearance, excessive windscreen tint, cracked windscreen, faulty rear lights, and non-compliant registration numbers.

Motorcycle-related offences involved non-compliant tyre sizes, registration numbers, reflectors, front and rear brake systems, chain covers, and exhaust systems. Mohd Misuari emphasized the importance of vehicle safety, stating that modifications should not be taken lightly as they impact the safety of all road users, not just the vehicle owner.

Mohd Misuari further revealed that since January, Kelantan JPJ had conducted 18 Ops Ekstrem operations, resulting in 5,616 notices being issued. During this period, 3,600 vehicles were inspected, leading to enforcement action against 1,130 vehicles and the seizure of 278 vehicles. Of these, 82 cases involved extreme modifications, while another 2,218 cases involved other offences.

In a separate development, Mohd Misuari mentioned that Kelantan JPJ had detected cases of Rohingya individuals purchasing vehicles in the country and lending them to friends for use.
