Kota bharu: The Kelantan Health Department has issued 85 notices of offence under Section 18 of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852) against premise owners and occupants who failed to comply with no-smoking regulations between January and April this year. Its director Datuk Dr Mohd Azman Yacob said of the total, 43 notices involved food premises, followed by grocery stores (18), convenience store (1), and other premises (23 notices). According to BERNAMA News Agency, the notices were issued following enforcement activities conducted on 6,209 premises statewide. Of the total, 98 percent were found to have complied with the requirements of Act 852 by displaying no-smoking and no-vaping signs as stipulated. For premises that failed to comply with provisions under Section 18(1), enforcement action was taken, including the issuance of notices of offence to the owners or occupants, he said in a statement today. Dr Mohd Azman highlighted that Tumpat recorded the highest number of no tices at 20, followed by Kuala Krai with 19 and Kota Bharu with 17. He emphasized that enforcement action is the last resort after advocacy and health education approaches have been conducted for premise owners. Premise owners are urged to fulfil their responsibilities by ensuring no-smoking and no-vaping signs are displayed at their premises to ensure the effectiveness of public health initiatives.
