Kelantan: The Kelantan Royal Malaysian Customs Department has seized 45 motorcycles suspected of being smuggled from Thailand, with an estimated value of RM3.62 million, including duties and taxes, over a period spanning from January to June.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kelantan Customs Director Mohd Hisham Mohd Nor revealed that these seizures were the culmination of enforcement operations and information from the public across several locations, including Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, and Johor Bahru. He explained that the smuggling syndicate allegedly transported the motorcycles through Sungai Golok and illegal jetties, subsequently storing them in workshops, residential areas, and storage units.

The smuggled motorcycles comprised high-powered models, kapcai (underbone motorcycles), and the popular Yamaha RXZ models, which are in demand due to their significantly lower prices compared to the market. Some of these motorcycles were intended to be sold as spare parts, Mohd Hisham noted during a press conference at the Rantau Panjang Customs Enforcement Branch.

Mohd Hisham further clarified that these motorcycles are considered prohibited import items and cannot be registered due to the absence of valid import documents. He detailed that the motorcycles' estimated value is RM1.34 million, while the duties and taxes amount to RM2.28 million, culminating in a total seizure value of RM3.62 million.

No arrests have been made in connection with the case, which is currently being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
