Kedah Ministry Investigates RON95 Fuel Contamination Claims

Alor Setar:The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living in Kedah (KPDN) has collected RON95 petrol samples from 11 petrol stations across various districts following viral allegations that the fuel might have been mixed with water.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the state KPDN director, Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin, stated that the initiative was prompted by public complaints about vehicles malfunctioning after refueling at the implicated stations. KPDN enforcement teams conducted inspections and collected fuel samples from tanks and pumps for further examination.

Initial inspections using manual dipping and Automatic Tank Gauge (ATG) system readings indicated no evidence of water in the fuel storage tanks. The inspections involved Petron and Caltex stations in Alor Setar, Kubang Pasu, Sungai Petani, and Kulim, where supply receipts, sales records, and other documents were reviewed.

Despite these preliminary checks, Muhammad Nizam noted that the findings were not definitive. The samples will be analyzed by the Department of Chemistry, with operators also sending samples to their respective oil companies' laboratories. KPDN plans to assess the laboratory results and investigation outcomes before deciding on further actions, which may include legal measures if necessary.

The public is encouraged to report complaints via WhatsApp at 019-848 8000, through the KPDN e-Aduan portal, the KPDN Call Centre at 1-800-886-800, or the KPDN EzADU smartphone application.
