KULIM: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) conducted a raid on a factory construction site in Kulim, targeting the illegal sale of subsidised cooking oil, flour, and sugar. During the operation, authorities uncovered a significant quantity of items being sold without a license.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kedah KPDN director Muhammad Nizam Jamaludin stated that the raid, executed by the Kulim and Alor Setar KPDN branches at noon, revealed the illegal sale of 967 kg of subsidised cooking oil in polythene bags, 480 kg of wheat flour, and 23 kg of sugar. The total estimated value of these goods is over RM3,900.
A local man in his 30s, who admitted to being the caretaker of the retail outlet at the site, was detained briefly for questioning. After providing a statement, he was released. The investigation is ongoing under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 (Act 122).
Muhammad Nizam emphasized the importance of compliance with regulations governing the sale of subsidised goods, warning that violations would not be tolerated. He clarified that while subsidised cooking oil is sold at RM2.50 per polybag, cooking oil sold in bottles of 2-to-5 kg is not subsidised.
The public is encouraged to report any similar illegal activities to KPDN using the e-aduan 2.0 portal or by contacting the Kedah KPDN office directly at 04-7001745.
