ALOR SETAR: The Kedah government has announced a financial aid package of RM500 for each household affected by the floods in November, extending support to those who did not relocate to temporary relief centers.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor stated that the verification process is ongoing to determine the total number of eligible households. For households that remained at home during the floods, confirmation must be obtained from the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) chairman and the village head.
“The current figures only account for flood victims who relocated to temporary relief centers,” said Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor. “We are collaborating with the MPKK and village heads to confirm those affected but who remained at home.” He noted that some victims were unable to move to the relief centers due to overcrowding and instead sought shelter on the upper floors of their homes, with district officer approval for assistance during the flood.
The distribution of the RM500 aid is set to begin once the final numbers are confirmed, with expectations to complete the process within this month. This initiative follows a previous disbursement of RM1,000 to each household that evacuated to the relief centers during the first phase of the floods in September last year.
