Kedah: The Kedah state government has appealed for the continuation of cloud seeding operations, which are being coordinated by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), in an effort to raise declining water levels at the state's dams.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Public Works, Natural Resources, Water Supply, Water Resources and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Mohamad Yusoff Zakaria stated that the recent cloud seeding operations, conducted from Thursday to yesterday, resulted in rainfall. However, this rainfall was insufficient to significantly boost reservoir levels. Before the cloud seeding on September 2, the total water supply at the Pedu, Muda, and Ahning Dams was recorded at 37.14 percent, but it has since decreased to 36.64 percent as of this morning.

Datuk Mohamad Yusoff Zakaria detailed the changes in water levels, noting that the Pedu Dam's water level is now at 38.46 percent, down from 39.02 percent on September 2. Similarly, the Muda Dam's water level has dropped to 9.04 percent from 9.32 percent previously. Meanwhile, the supply at Ahning Dam is currently at 45.00 percent, a slight decrease from 45.32 percent over the same period.

He emphasized the critical nature of maintaining sufficient dam water supply to ensure the smooth operation of padi irrigation systems, as Kedah's agricultural sector heavily relies on these water sources. In light of this, the federal government has implemented early and targeted measures to address the dry weather conditions, low rainfall, and potential risk of deteriorating air quality through cloud seeding operations in both Kedah and Perlis.
