Kedah Regional Development Authority (KEDA) College has made history on the international stage after securing a total of 32 medals at the World Chefs Championship 2026 (WCC 2026).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the competition, held from May 21 to 23 at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru, was organised in collaboration with the Malaysia Culinary Masters Association (MCMA). KEDA general manager Afifah Omar reported that the institution won 12 gold medals, 19 silver medals, and one bronze medal.
Afifah highlighted that two of the 12 gold medals were under the Excellent Gold category, positioning the institution among the leading contingents throughout the three-day championship. She stated that the students were evaluated on creativity, taste, precision in modern and traditional cooking techniques, and kitchen hygiene.
Afifah mentioned that the competitive categories won included Free Style Cookies, Team Fruit or Vegetable Carving, Thai Modern Main Course, Spaghetti Challenge, Char Kway Teow, traditional dishes like beef kurma and chicken rendang, as well as beverage preparation, including freestyle teh tarik.
She further emphasized that the platform has significantly helped in enhancing talent and building self-confidence among KEDA College students, demonstrating the employability of rural graduates in the global hospitality and culinary arts sector. Afifah extended her appreciation and congratulations to all participants and instructors for their effort and dedication in bringing recognition to the college and the country on the international stage.
