Kuala lumpur: The Home Ministry (KDN) will leverage its participation in the Defence Services Asia (DSA) and National Security (NATSEC) Asia 2026 Exhibitions to assess the latest security technologies and assets, in line with the ministry's long-term planning.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the exhibitions serve as a strategic platform for local and international defence and security industry players to showcase the latest products in intelligence and modern security systems. In fulfilling its role of safeguarding national security and public order, the ministry evaluates new assets and products to strengthen the preparedness of the country's security forces.
Saifuddin Nasution emphasized that as a step forward in exploring the potential of new products, the ministry will act in accordance with its long-term strategic planning. He mentioned that exhibitions like the DSA offer the best opportunity for officers to witness and adapt technologies to the ministry's outlined needs.
He conveyed these points during a press conference following the signing of the procurement contract for the second Multi-Purpose Mission Ship (MPMS) for the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA). Saifuddin Nasution highlighted that potential procurement or improvement enhancements will be studied based on the needs outlined in the ministry's long-term strategic policy.
The Home Minister remarked that the KDN cannot adopt a knee-jerk or impromptu approach, emphasizing the importance of a long-term policy to fulfil its duties, including improving capabilities in terms of equipment.
The 19th edition of the DSA Exhibition, held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), will run until Thursday, April 23. In response to a question about the proposed implementation of a new foreign worker recruitment system known as the Universal Recruitment Advanced Platform (TURAP), Saifuddin Nasution said that the KDN will provide further views when the matter is presented at the Cabinet level.
Previously, nine Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Members of Parliament expressed concern over reports and remarks from Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan regarding the proposal to introduce the TURAP system developed by Bestinet Sdn Bhd.
