KDN To Assess Fuel Sales At Border Petrol Stations To Curb Smuggling

Bukit berapit: The Home Ministry (KDN) will assess fuel sales volumes at petrol stations near the country's borders to implement enforcement measures aimed at curbing fuel smuggling. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the ministry will obtain all sales data from the Finance Ministry and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) to identify petrol stations near the borders that recorded unreasonable sales.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, once these sales records are shared, police teams will be deployed to target specific petrol stations, facilitating operations. Extraordinary sales volumes will be the primary focus. This was announced at a press conference following a working visit and inspection of Malaysia-Thailand border control operations at the Bukit Berapit Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) Complex. Present at the event was Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Suhaily Mohd Zain.

Yesterday, Saifuddin Nasution mentioned that the KDN would deploy police personnel to monitor and curb fuel smuggling activities at petrol stations near the country's borders. This decision follows the Cabinet's latest directive last week amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, which could impact the country's supply chain and goods prices.

Additionally, Saifuddin stated that the ministry would review all relevant acts to prosecute those involved in fuel smuggling and leakage. For cases involving controlled goods, KPDN will enforce the Control of Supplies Act, while smuggling or theft cases will fall under KDN's jurisdiction. Cooperation among enforcement agencies will be strengthened to effectively curb subsidy leakages and safeguard the people's welfare.
