Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) will waive the fee for registration of new youth organisations and amendments of constitutions from January 1 next year until December 31, 2027, to improve compliance and encourage greater youth participation in registered bodies. This initiative is in response to the amendment to the Youth Organisations and Youth Development Act 2007 (Act 668), which will require all organisations under the Office of the Registrar of Youth Organisations (ROY) to comply with the new age limit for youth, set at under 30 years old, effective January 1, 2026.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, a total of 979 youth organisations have already amended their constitutions. ROY data indicates that 53,307 youth leaders and 546,651 members under the age of 30 are currently active in organisations, highlighting the readiness of young people to assume leadership roles. In a statement, KBS revealed that the national-level Youth Organisation Engagement Session 2025 was organized by ROY today as part of efforts to strengthen understanding and preparedness among youth organisations ahead of the implementation of the amended Act 668.
The event, which concluded a series of 14 engagement sessions nationwide, served as a platform for constructive dialogue, comprehensive information sharing, and detailed explanations on the legal requirements related to transitioning to the new youth leadership age. A total of 600 leaders and members of youth organisations participated in these sessions.
KBS underscored that setting the youth leadership age limit to under 30 constitutes a significant generational shift, intended to create wider opportunities for young leaders to guide youth organisations and play a stronger role in the national leadership ecosystem. Beyond regulatory measures, KBS continues to bolster support for youth organisations through various grant and assistance schemes, including the Sports Matching Grant (GPS), Community Sports Fund (DSK), Youth and Young Friends Development Fund, and the International Youth Fund (IYFKBS).
These funding initiatives aim to enhance the delivery of joint programmes that serve as mechanisms for social empowerment, particularly in addressing issues such as drug abuse, bullying, and crime among youth, the ministry stated.
