KBS to Distribute Sports Development Funds Equitably, Says Minister

Accra:The Youth and Sports Ministry will ensure that the sports development funds announced in Budget 2027 are distributed fairly and equitably among all national sports associations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the minister, Dr. Mohammed Taufiq Johari, emphasized that the allocation will consider the potential of each sport, focusing particularly on those with the capability to win medals at international competitions and in preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Dr. Taufiq stated that the allocations would be assessed based on each sport's prospects in terms of medal potential, with Olympic sports being prioritized. This announcement followed his appearance on Bernama TV's Ruang Bicara program.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during the tabling of Budget 2027, revealed an allocation of RM460 million for national sports development. This funding aims to enhance high-performance sports programs and support the Road to Gold initiative, alongside development programs for para-athletes and deaf athletes. It also includes the maintenance of sports facilities nationwide.

In a separate initiative, Dr. Taufiq mentioned that the ministry aims for rural communities to benefit from the RM30 million Sports Matching Grant announced in the budget. The goal is to ensure comprehensive distribution, providing sports development opportunities beyond urban areas and nurturing emerging talents at the grassroots level.
