KBS Initiates Search for CEO of 2027 SEA Games Organising Committee

Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) is searching for a chief executive officer (CEO) for the Organising Committee for the 34th SEA Games and the 15th ASEAN Para Games scheduled to be held in the country in 2027. Its Minister, Hannah Yeoh, stated that discussions will be held with the Public Service Department (JPA) to select the individual responsible for this role before detailing the members of the Organising Committee for the biennial Games.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hannah Yeoh mentioned that after Hari Raya Aidilfitri, talks with the JPA will be conducted to appoint the CEO, who will then decide on the appointments of other committee members. She emphasized the urgency of the task, as the Games are approaching, and the selected CEO will need to act swiftly.

The government recently approved the establishment of the Organising Committee for the upcoming SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games. Malaysia last hosted the SEA Games in 2017, where the country’s contingent emerged as overall ch
ampions with 145 gold medals, 92 silver medals, and 86 bronze medals. Malaysia has previously hosted the Games in 1965, 1971, 1977, 1989, 2001, and 2017.

Thailand is set to host the 33rd edition of the Games in December, taking place in Bangkok, Chonburi, and Songkhla.

Earlier, Hannah officiated the launch of Taska Team MAS at the National Sports Institute, a move aimed at enhancing welfare support for athletes, coaches, and sports agency staff at KL Sports City. She explained that Taska Team MAS is designed to assist athletes and staff in balancing career and family responsibilities, operating from 7 am to 7 pm to accommodate early training schedules that might not align with standard childcare hours.
