Kuala lumpur: The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) is awaiting the full post-mortem report on the national badminton squad's performance at the 2026 Thomas Cup and Uber Cup to identify weaknesses that need immediate improvement. Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari stated that the report's findings will serve as key indicators and guidelines for the ministry and the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) in formulating more effective athlete development strategies in the future. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Dr Mohammed Taufiq expressed his optimism about the national players' efforts at the event, even though the teams' overall performance fell short of expectations. He emphasized the importance of continuing their development and engaging with BAM to ensure performance improvements. Addressing any shortcomings immediately was highlighted as a priority. Dr Mohammed Taufiq assured that discussions with BAM regarding the continuous development of badminton athletes will be held. The post-m ortem report is expected to serve as an indicator and guideline to ensure that national players can keep enhancing their performance. In the 2026 Thomas Cup campaign, Malaysia concluded as Group B runners-up and was defeated 0-3 by defending champions China in the quarter-finals. Similarly, Malaysia's journey in the 2026 Uber Cup Finals ended in the quarter-finals after a 0-3 defeat by defending champions China.
