KBS and NSC Will Evaluate MNCF’s Requests, Says Minister.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) and the National Sports Council (NSC) are prepared to assess the three requests put forward by the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF). These requests involve the enhancement of the Velodrome Rakyat in Ipoh, Perak; the provision of specific allocations for the national road racing team; and the allocation of funds to the association for organizing competitions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh stated that the ministry would review these requests comprehensively before making any decisions. She mentioned plans to visit the Velodrome Rakyat with MNCF representatives after the conclusion of the Parliamentary session. The request for permanent funding for the road racing squad was highlighted as a long-term need, with previous allocations being halted in 2013.

In addition, Minister Yeoh mentioned that discussions with the NSC regarding the reinstatement of lawn bowls into the Podium Programme are nearing complet
ion. She noted a meeting with Malaysia Lawn Bowls Federation (MLBF) president Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz, emphasizing Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple’s achievement as the world number one male lawn bowler and the importance of this sport’s inclusion.

Minister Yeoh also issued a reminder to sports associations about the necessity of obtaining ministry permission before hosting tournaments, especially those of international caliber. She stressed the importance of ensuring adequate funding to avoid organizational issues. The Cabinet has mandated that associations must secure ministerial approval before bidding for international events due to past incidents of insufficient funding leading to poorly managed events and adverse impacts on Malaysia’s reputation. This directive is part of the government’s efforts to improve the quality and management of sports events in the country.
