Karamunting: Incumbent Confident Of Defending Seat With Service Record, Support From Party Machinery

Karamunting: Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Karamunting, Datuk George Hiew Vun Zin, expressed his willingness to leverage his two-term service record to continue serving the people by defending the seat. Hiew, from PKR, highlighted the strong support from the PH machinery and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) during the campaign for the 17th State Election, bolstering his confidence that voters in Karamunting will once again entrust him with the responsibility of representing the constituency.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hiew initially had concerns about how his move from contesting under the GRS ticket to PH might be received by voters and party members. However, his interactions on the ground revealed that the change was met without anger or negativity. The acceptance by party members further reinforced the focus on ensuring victory in Karamunting to strengthen the bridge between Sandakan and the federal government.

Hiew emphasized his commitment to treating residents like family and assisting those facing hardships. Despite contesting under the PH banner, he believes the people’s trust and acceptance remain strong due to his service throughout his tenure as assemblyman. He noted the importance of this state election in ensuring that Sabah is led by a government capable of effectively collaborating with the federal government to address long-standing issues involving basic amenities.

Hiew expressed confidence in the Prime Minister’s leadership, describing him as a leader who understands the hardships faced by Sabahans and is committed to bringing change. He urged the people of Sabah to support the efforts to implement development projects, attract international investments, and create job opportunities. PKR’s decision to contest 10 seats is seen as a readiness to form a state government with like-minded coalitions aiming to develop Sabah.

Hiew also stressed the importance of job creation in Sabah to prevent youth migration in search of employment opportunities. He envisions a future where Sabah’s stability, in partnership with the federal government, will lead to a brighter future for the state. The Election Commission (EC) has set November 29 as the polling day for the 17th Sabah State Election, with early voting on November 25.
