JTPAP Meeting Outlines Steps To Tackle Fuel Leakage

Kuala lumpur: The government is intensifying efforts to curb fuel leakage through five key measures agreed at a recent Inter-Agency Enforcement Coordination High-Level Committee (JTPAP) meeting. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the measures include appointing lead agencies by sector, taking firm action against misuse of fleet cards, setting up a special Ops Tiris 4.0 task force in Sabah, Labuan, and Sarawak, and expanding the use of fleet cards under the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the main decision involves appointing lead agencies for three sectors, with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) overseeing the land sector, the police handling border control, and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) managing maritime operations to strengthen coordination. Firm action will be taken against any misuse of diesel subsidies, including suspending or revoking fleet card approvals under SKDS, as well as fishermen's diesel subsidies.

Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, said the government will strengthen regulation of bunkering activities to ensure fuel operations are closely monitored and to prevent misuse or smuggling. Additionally, the government plans to expand the use of SKDS fleet cards for the land freight transport sector in Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan to improve monitoring and transparency in subsidy distribution.

He added that the measures were presented to the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) and approved by the Cabinet on April 8 for implementation.
