MELAKA: The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) has successfully completed three National River Trail (DSK) projects in Melaka, utilizing approximately RM1.5 million allocated by the federal government. The projects aim to improve river preservation, rehabilitation, and flood management in the region.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Rais Yasin, the chairman of the State Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee, announced the completion of the projects at strategic locations: Sungai Malim near the Klebang floodgate, Sungai Jeram beside Hang Jebat Stadium, and Parit Besar beside Universiti Islam Melaka. These initiatives not only address flooding issues but also enhance water quality and offer recreational spaces, benefiting local communities. Each project required an average investment of RM500,000, with construction beginning in September and concluding by December of last year.
During the official launch of the Parit Besar DSK project, Rais was joined by Kuala Linggi state assemblyman Datuk Rosli Abdullah and Melaka JPS director Dr. Muhammad Khairudin Khalil. Rais also revealed plans for three additional DSK projects in Melaka this year, contingent on further federal funding.
Rais also discussed the ‘Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat’ program, set to end in the Kuala Linggi state constituency on January 18 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Othman Syawal in Kuala Sungai Baru. This community-focused event, expected to attract around 10,000 residents, will feature a communal feast where two cows will be slaughtered and 400 kilogrammes of stingray assam pedas will be served.
The program, launched today, underscores the state government’s commitment to the welfare of Melaka residents. It will be held monthly, rotating through state constituencies over a two-week period and involving local assemblymen, state agencies, and government departments. The initiative serves as a platform for residents to report complaints or issues directly to their assemblymen and relevant agencies, facilitating prompt resolutions.
