Kuala lumpur: The National Unity and Integration Department (JPNIN) has earmarked RM20 million to repair Tabika Perpaduan and Taska Perpaduan premises, as well as Neighbourhood Watch Areas (KRT) impacted by disasters. The department’s director-general, Zulkifli Hashim, announced that the funds will be utilized next year after receiving applications from unity officers. Priority will be given to premises affected by disasters like floods and landslides.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, nearly 116 premises, including Tabika Perpaduan and KRT, were impacted by such disasters last year, resulting in an expenditure of almost RM10 million for repair and maintenance. The department is now preparing for similar potential disasters this year and is ready to provide immediate repair assistance in affected areas.
Zulkifli elaborated that in anticipation of floods this year, early precautions will be taken. This includes the immediate evacuation of students and teachers to safer locations and the relocation of important documents, computers, and other assets to higher ground. The department will also instruct KRT units to monitor river water levels and conduct community patrols, while ensuring that hazardous spots like drains and areas prone to collapse are clearly marked.
In Kelantan, 25 Tabika and Taska Perpaduan have been identified as being at risk of flooding. This includes seven in Pasir Mas, four in Kota Bharu, and three each in Tanah Merah and Gua Musang.
