Kuala lumpur: The Prime Minister's Department (JPM) has rejected the airing of the drama Madu atau Racun, which has allegedly sparked public concern and controversy. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan expressed regret over the inclusion of elements that touched on religious sensitivities and local cultural norms, whether explicitly or implicitly.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zulkifli emphasized the need to curb elements contrary to Islamic teachings and Eastern cultural values to ensure that the faith and moral values of the community, particularly the young generation, remain safeguarded. He highlighted that the sanctity of the family institution and the decorum of religious life are upheld by Islamic principles, and depictions of deviant lifestyles oppose these values.

In response to these concerns, Zulkifli announced that the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) would collaborate with relevant agencies to review the content of the drama and take appropriate follow-up action. This will be based on the Guidelines for Content Screening of Islamic-Themed Broadcasting Materials (JAKIM No. 4/2015) and existing legal provisions. The aim is to ensure all broadcast content is appropriate and upholds the sanctity of the religion.

Moreover, Zulkifli urged creative industry practitioners, producers, and broadcasters to remain sensitive and responsible by adhering to established official guidelines. This is essential when producing works that promote positive values and contribute to nation-building. He stressed that the arts industry and media platforms should serve as mediums to instil virtuous values, rather than fuel controversies that could disrupt societal norms.

Additionally, he called on the Muslim community to unite in upholding the sanctity of the religion and moral integrity with steadfastness and wisdom.
