JPJ Introduces Six-Month RM150 Flat-Rate for Specific Traffic Offences

KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has announced a special flat-rate compound fee of RM150 for three specific traffic offences, effective for a six-month period beginning tomorrow. This initiative, unveiled by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, aims to encourage the settlement of outstanding summonses by reducing the financial burden on offenders.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the flat-rate offer applies to certain JPJ summons notices, including Summons 53A (AwAS Summons) for speeding or running red lights as captured by the AwAS camera system, Notice 114 (Interview Notice), and Notice 115 (Sticker Summons Notice by JPJ). Payment for these summonses can be made through various channels, such as JPJ counters, kiosks, public portals, and the MyJPJ app, although options like MyEG or Pos Malaysia are not included.

Transport Minister Loke highlighted that the regular compound rate for these notices is typically RM300. The new rate is designed to encourage the clearance of two million outstanding AwAS summonses by offering a more accessible payment option over the six-month period starting January 3. Loke warned that failure to settle these summonses could result in restrictions on renewing driving or motor vehicle licenses.

Furthermore, Loke announced a temporary suspension of demerit point accumulation from January 3 to June 30. During this time, the JPJ’s Enforcement Division will review the system’s implementation method, potentially paving the way for future reforms in traffic enforcement strategies.
