Kuala lumpur: In conjunction with National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has conveyed his appreciation to all journalists, media practitioners, and broadcasting personnel for their dedication in delivering information to the public.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah emphasized the significant role journalists play in strengthening democracy and shaping an informed society, especially in a rapidly changing media landscape. He highlighted that journalists act as a crucial bridge between the people and the government, delivering news with integrity.
Fadillah expressed that a free, responsible, and ethical media serves as a strategic partner to the government in ensuring Malaysia's stability and progress. He acknowledged the sacrifices journalists make, often working in challenging conditions to deliver authentic and balanced information to the public.
In today's digital era, Fadillah noted the challenge posed by false information and sensationalism, urging media professionals to uphold journalism principles of facts and accountability. He stated that the government recognizes the media's role in national development, advocating for strong synergy between the government and media practitioners.
Fadillah hopes the media industry will evolve with technological advances while maintaining ethics and professionalism, noting that journalists are pivotal in shaping societal and national futures.
The HAWANA 2026 celebration is scheduled in Penang on June 20, themed 'Media Integrity Strengthens Credibility', focusing on the media's role in national development. The event will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the PICCA Convention Centre @ Arena Butterworth.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi highlighted journalists' growing importance in the digital age as reliable sources of information. He valued the relationship with media partners and acknowledged their efforts in ensuring the public receives accurate information, urging continued integrity and responsibility in reporting.
In line with HAWANA 2026, Ahmad Zahid expressed gratitude to media practitioners for their commitment to journalism.
