Jonassen Urges Malaysian Teams to Embrace Pressure at Thomas and Uber Cup Finals

Horsens: Malaysia will kick off their Thomas and Uber Cup Finals 2026 here with a clear message from the coaching camp, which is to start strong, stay composed and embrace the pressure. National singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen believes the opening matches for both the men's and women's teams in Forum Horsens, tomorrow, will set the tone for the entire campaign, with mental strength and belief playing decisive roles.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Jonassen emphasized that playing to their best ability will give Malaysia a good chance in the tournament. He expressed anticipation for the Uber Cup matches, particularly observing how the women's team handles the challenges. He stressed the importance of starting the Thomas Cup on a high note and urged players to embrace upcoming challenges and overcome match struggles.

Five-time champions Malaysia will open their Thomas Cup Group B campaign against England. In the Uber Cup, Malaysia, also drawn in Group B, will commence against Turkiye. Jonassen noted the strong energy displayed by the squad during the recent training camp in Herning, indicating their readiness for the campaign in Horsens.

Meanwhile, national doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky highlighted the players' motivation to begin their first match positively. He stated that every player, regardless of selection, must be mentally prepared to rise to the occasion, especially in the high-pressure environment of team competition.

The Thomas and Uber Cup Finals 2026, which kicked off today, will continue until May 3.
